KMPT runs the Return to Practice programme in conjunction with Canterbury Christ Church University and Greenwich University.
Ola Idowu (right) did that a year ago. She has the biggest heart for mental health and realised she needed that in her life as much as all the other things that make her the person she is.
She said: “It has been great. If I said I didn’t initially feel guilty, I would be lying. But Tami was six, at school and I reached a place where I thought I can do this. To show him the pride I have in my work is important.
“It seemed a little daunting and I was thinking would I remember, but it was like riding a bike. You never lose that love for caring. This is mine. This is my space and this is my time.”

AHP Return to Practice
We welcome applications for Return to Practice for Allied Health Professions that we employ in our Trust – Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapists and Prosthetics.

Previously-registered mental health nursing staff (RMN or RNLD), who have been away from practice for more than 12 months and their NMC registration has lapsed.
- Duration of the course is four-six months
- Requires a minimum of 120 hours practice
- Requires a minimum of 100 hours of supervised practice assessed by a sign-off mentor allocated by KMPT.
- Candidates apply for a Return to Practice vacancy via NHS jobs or one of the Trac job boards
- Candidates will be shortlisted and attend an interview with a panel to talk through their experience
- Successful candidates will be offered a position on a ward with an appropriate mentor assigned. They will need to confirm they have been accepted on a course. While on training, they will be paid on the bottom of band 3. They will commence in KMPT on a fixed start date close to the date of the start of their course
- After they have produced evidence of completion to their manager, they will be made a band 5 nurse.
