The New Seasiders

What is the New Seasiders group?

The New Seasiders are a group of people living with a confirmed diagnosis of dementia, alongside Kent and Medway NHS professionals and volunteers. Everyone in the group is equal; we are all knowers, learners and teachers.

We are a group of like-minded people who are “not willing to sit back and let life pass us by”.

Our members are diverse, with a wide range of ages and backgrounds.

The main aims of our group are:

  • To bring awareness to our local society about dementia through opportunities to take part in teaching, training, conferences, consultations, research and campaigns.
  • To act as an advocate for other people living with dementia.
  • To work alongside the Kent and Medway Partnership Trust to reduce stigma and to deliver good quality dementia friendly services.
  • To take part in projects and research within the group and outside the group that will help make a difference in the lives of people living with dementia.

What is it like being a member of the seasiders?

  • It’s all about having fun! Enjoying life
  • Tea and biscuits
  • Having a good peer support system
  • Able to share coping strategies with each other.
  • Working as part of a group

Our current transport project:

We are currently looking into the lack of assessible transport for people with dementia in our local Thanet community.

We are hoping to raise more awareness to this problem and look at ways we can get help from our local council and charities.

We are in the process of setting up a questionnaire which can help us to identify the transport difficulties faced by individuals in our community.

This project has been a team effort by our members and we would love your contributions

We meet on the third Fridays of every month at 10-12pm.
